I often go hiking and biking on the many miles of trails just behind the school, but the woods in Tennessee are no comparison to the great outdoors in Oregon.
The little car that could; my Corolla that David Hermens game me a few years ago has made the trip across the country three times now. Hopefully it will make one more trip home in December. Thanks again to David for the car and to Dave Williams for keeping it running great for me.
60 pounds of backpack on a 24 mile trip on the Appellation Trail was lots of fun, especially after it rained on us all day long.
The end of a very long 7.5 mile hike in the rain on the Appellation Trail, luckily there are nice shelters like this one built about every ten miles along the trail.
I went on a backpacking trip with my PE class near Abram's Falls in the Smokey Mountains last October. Although the Smokey’s are very disappointing compared to the mountains in Oregon, it is a pretty nice area as far as Tennessee goes.
Foster Falls is one of the nicest places I’ve been hiking in Western Tennessee.
My first rock climbing experience, but I don’t think that clinging to a nearly vertical rock face is my idea of fun.
My room where most of my studying fun takes place, but it really isn’t this bad most of the time.
After attending Pacific Union College (near Napa, CA) my freshmen year and Oregon State University (Corvallis, OR) my sophomore year, I settled in at Southern Adventist University (near Chattanooga, TN) for the duration of my bachelors degree. Southern is part of the Adventist educational system and I was drawn by their strong Computer Science department. Since then I have appreciated the Christian atmosphere on campus and the friendly nature of the South. I have also enjoyed hiking, backpacking, and other outdoor activities in the area.
After graduating in December, I plan on working on personal programming projects and being lazy for the rest of the holiday season. Once rested and mentally revitalized, I hope to find employment in web programming or software development until I begin my masters degree in the fall. Pending acceptance to a program, I hope to attend either the University of Washington or Oregon State University.
At the moment I'm anxiously working toward graduation and looking forward to returning to Oregon. The commencement ceremony will be held on Southern's campus on December 13. The ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm in Iles gymnasium. It will be relatively small but should include the usual procedures and it will be followed by a reception. Tickets are not needed and everyone is welcome.

A live video of the graduation service will be shown on the school's web site during the graduation service. There isn't a link yet, but it should show up on the home page ( southern.edu ) eventually. I'll post a direct link when it is available.
